PAKWAN BRINGS AUTHENTIC INDIAN FINE DINING TO AUSTIN

This Unique New Restaurant and Bar Offers Exquisite Cuisine in a Beautiful Environment Rich with the Flavors of Tradition

AUSTIN, TX…Forget clichéd curries and tired tandoori. Pakwan — the name means "meal" in Hindi — offers Austin diners their first taste of real Indian cuisine. Yes, there are curries and tandoori dishes, done right for a change — but there are plenty of savory surprises too, from vegetables cooked village style to griddle-fired prawns to an imaginative menu of kababs that co-owner Mumtaz modestly believes are "the best in the nation."

Beautifully designed and crafted in Indian tradition, the 96-seat restaurant just opened by Laila Prasla with Mumtaz Prasla and Naseem Meknojia – A one of its kind authentic Indian Restaurant brought to Austin By the Forza group. Pakwan Indian Restaurant and Bar is a one-of-a-kind establishment, furnished in earth and spice hues and Indian textiles, using traditional Indian cooking methods and authentic ingredients, and serving unexpected and delicious food in hand-crafted copper vessels like those used on the best tables in India itself.

Executive chef Laila Prasla, well-known as the premier Indian caterer in Texas, and restaurant chef Ravi Chandra offer diners at Pakwan a treasury of culinary wonderments seldom seen outside India, including such dishes as Murg Tikka Hara Bhara (morsels of chicken marinated in yogurt and spices with fenugreek, mint, and fresh coriander), Lachedar Paratha (flaky whole wheat flatbread simmered with clarified butter), Vegetable Jhalfrazie (mixed vegetables stir-fried with onions, tomatoes, and green peppers and flavored with cinammon and pepper), and Kadai Lamb (lamb chops in a sauce of tomatoes, onions, garlic, spices, and herbs). "No one in Texas has this kind of menu," says Mohit.

Balancing tradition with a contemporary sensibility, Pakwan also offers a selection of cutting-edge "molecular" cocktails, concocted by mixologist Joe Minjares. "We want to bring new sensations to the diverse set of palates here in Austin," says Minjares, "and we want to do it in an environment that is both relaxed and sophisticated. We believe that Pakwan offers an exquisite Indian fine dining experience found nowhere else in America."

Mr. Raj Mehra, the interior decorator and chief consultant of the restaurant introduces  for the first time in Austin a complimentary special “welcome” (non-alcoholic) drink with a side of two fruit and cheese cocktail sticks to each guest.  And to top it all off, four complimentary snacks with every bar drink purchased.

Pakwan Indian Restaurant and Bar, offering unique Indian dining and a lively bar scene in beautiful surroundings, is located at 3601 West William Cannon Drive, Suite 450, Austin, Texas 78749 (512-366-5204). Pakwan is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to midnight.  For more information, please visit our website at www.pakwanaustin.com .
